David Navarete Gómez

Senior Researcher-Professor at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS)
Senior Researcher-Professor at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS), and Member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers. He earned a PhD from The University of Warwick (UK) in History.
From 2001 to 2013, he was the director of the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program in Mexico, a scholarship program that enabled more than 230 indigenous women and men to pursue graduate-level studies at high-quality universities in Mexico and abroad.
Dr. Navarrete was a visiting researcher in 2015 at the Institute for Latin American Studies, Freie Universität Berlin, with support from Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology.
Dr. Navarrete’s current work involves research on scholarship program outcomes and their wider implications for individual recipients and societies, with particular emphasis on the Mexican context and its indigenous people. He has written and lectured extensively on these topics.
Dr. Navarrete was the founding editor of the magazine Aquí Estamos and promoter of the Red Interdisciplinaria de Investigadores de los Pueblos Índios de México (Interdisciplinary Network of Indigenous Researchers of the Indigenous Peoples of Mexico, Red IINPIM).
