Esther Kuisch Laroche

Director of the UNESCO Office in San José and UNESCO Representative to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama
Esther Kuisch Laroche is the Director of the UNESCO Office in San José and UNESCO Representative to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
She holds a Master’s degree in Latin American studies from Leiden University (Netherlands) and a Master’s degree in Education (Lifelong Learning and Adult Education) from the Pennsylvania State University (United States of America).
Prior to working at the United Nations, Ms. Kuisch Laroche worked with several international NGOs in different countries around the world in the field of development, human rights and humanitarian aid.
She joined the United Nations in 2002, working first in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and subsequently with UNICEF in Geneva, Switzerland, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Jerusalem.
From July 2014 to September 2018, she was the Director of the UNESCO Office in Tehran and UNESCO Representative to the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan, during which time she actively promoted regional cooperation in the fields of science, innovation, technology and engineering.
