Dr. Silvia Saito is a Brazilian geographer, Ph.D. in Geography from the Federal University of Santa Catarina. From  2008 – 2011 she was a researcher at the Nucleus of Research and Application of Geotechnologies in Natural Disasters and Extreme Events (Geodesastres-Sul) of National Institute for Space Research (INPE). She is currently working at the National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters (Cemaden), which is part of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communication of Brazil.
Her areas of research focus on the social dimension of natural disasters, mainly vulnerability and disaster risk management. She is also interested in popularization of science and technology for disaster risk reduction.
